The Xiaomi company has released a software update for almost all of its 5G smartphones to enable them to connect to the Jio standalone 5G network. However, there are still a few premium Xiaomi handsets that do not support Jio 5G. Here is the list of all those handsets.

The Reliance Jio True 5G service is now available in over 133 cities, including Delhi-NCR, Jaipur, Bareilly, Bengaluru, and more. For users to connect to Jio 5G, they will need to have a smartphone that supports 5G and will have to wait for Jio to send a welcome invitation to their phone. Users are also required to install the latest system update, which will enable their phone to be compatible with the 5G band. In spite of the fact that most of the mobile manufacturers have already released the system updates for Jio 5G, there are still some 5G smartphones that do not support the fifth-generation network connectivity that Jio is offering.

Telecom Talk mentioned that there is a select range of Xiaomi 5G smartphones that won’t be able to support Jio 5G. Xiaomi is already a leading smartphone brand in India and offers a wide range of 5G smartphones. Even though almost all of Xiaomi’s 5G smartphones have received the support for 5G SA, there are two different devices that do not have the support for 5G SA at the moment.

The Xiaomi 5G smartphones that do not support the standalone 5G network offered by Jio include the following:

  • Xiaomi Mi 10
  • Xiaomi Mi 10i

In terms of price, these are Xioami’s premium offerings, which start at around Rs 50,000. As a result, Jio customers who are looking forward to 5G on these phones will have to be disappointed.

There is no doubt that Xiaomi is one of the leading smartphone brands in India today. There have been millions of 5G smartphones sold by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, and the manufacturer has even released 5G support for Jio SA as well as Airtel’s non-SA network. However, neither of the above-mentioned devices is ready for Jio 5G.

In the meantime, there are several Xiaomi smartphones that support Jio True 5G, including the Xiaomi 11 Ultra 5G, Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G, Mi 11X 5G, Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, Redmi Note 11 Prime 5G, Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G, Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 11T 5G, Mi 11X Pro 5G, Redmi Note 10T 5G, Xiaomi 11i 5G and Redmi K50i 5G.

Connecting to 5G requires a software update

As soon as the 5G network was launched in India last year in October 2022, all the OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) were advised to roll out system updates to support both Jio and Airtel’s 5G networks. Due to the fact that the smartphones were only exposed to 3G/4G bands as of date, a software update was necessary.

Nevertheless, the OEMs will have to enable and optimize the radio frequency of their devices with the advent of 5G, which will be done through software updates, which is done by the OEMs. In order to upgrade the software for Jio 5G, it was necessary since the telecom operator has built a whole new infrastructure for 5G that does not rely upon the existing infrastructure for 4G.
